You are what you eat!

How many times have you heard your mama say, "you are what you eat", "garbage in, garbage out", "if you lay with a dog, you're gonna get fleas"? Ok, maybe not so much the last one, but you get the point.

Over time we begin becoming like what it is that we have focused most of our time and energies on. Our time and energies can be directed toward good things, Godly things, but if those "things" become what drives us, we have driven past the purpose of God's plan.

I recently started doing a Bible Study with a friend- No Other Gods, by Kelly Minter- a study that I highly recommend. Up to this point in the study God has spoken volumes to me and I'm sure He is going to continue to speak. This past week Kelly had us look at 2 Kings 17:15.

"They rejected His decrees and the covenant He had made with
their ancestors, and they despised all His warnings. They worshiped worthless
idols, so they became worthless themselves. They followed the example of the
nations around them, disobeying the Lord’s command not to imitate them."
2 Kings 17:15, NLT

God's people had begun worshipping idols; idols that were of no value in anyway to their lives; idols that in no way, shape, or fashion led them to the throne of God. And the result? God's people became exactly like the idols- there was nothing of godliness about them. They were in no way, shape, or fashion being a reflection of God Almighty. At this moment in their lives, they were worthless to Kingdom work. Ouch!

I don't know about you, but I've been there. I've gotten so caught up in the worship of things and people and doing that I have lost sight of the God that I am to be worshipping and serving. Looking back on those times now I see how ineffective for the Kingdom I had become because instead of walking in God's power alone, I was relying on myself to get the job done.

So what do we do? How to we guard ourselves against becoming something other than an accurate reflection of a perfect God? The Lord showed me a verse that I am taking as a great place to start.

"I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of
Egypt; open your mouth wide, and I will fill it."
Psalm 81:10, NKJV
Just as the Lord rescued His children out from underneath the bondage of pharaoh, He has rescued us out from underneath the bondage of sin. We are to no longer feast on the things that satisfied our sin natures while in bondage, but instead we are to open wide our mouths allowing Him to fill us with the Truths of His Word.

Pull up a chair, dear friend, at His table and let's chow down!

I love this post!!! It was just what the Great Physician ordered.

I love the ending, "He has rescued us out from underneath the bondage of sin. We are to no longer feast on the things that satisfied our sin natures while in bondage, but instead we are to open wide our mouths allowing Him to fill us with the Truths of His Word."

Finally something I can do!!! I open my mouth way to quickly and easily :) but, a promise If I unclench my jaw and release myself to Him, HE IS!!! going to fill me. :) (And this is not earthly man made food, and guilt is not from God so it has to be Calorie FREE!!!) WHOA :).

Thank you for being obedient and digging so deeply and sharing what you have found to make us desire our own treasures.
